Good hotel, great food but rooms a bit dated

Pros: Location, great pool, great food.
Cons: Rooms need renovating, food and drinks expensive.
Location: Within 15 mins of Lion rock and and and about an hour and 20 mins from Polonnaruwa. Nothing of note outside the hotel apart from a local store .
We chose hotel for location as we wanted to be close to Lion rock and within an hour of Polonnaruwa. Check in was ok but the bell boy gave me attitude when I explained I genuinely didn't have any change or small notes to tip him. Something I always do. The staff were nice and friendly . Food and drinks expensive, however, the food was of excellent quality. Excellent pool area. The disappointment for us was the room. Very dated with old furniture and shabby curtains, although the bed was comfortable. Reminded us of a safari lodge in Africa. Also this is a large hotel so you get a lot of groups and coach parties staying here and they can be NOISY and annoying!

Wildlife

We saw monkeys on our verandah, squirrels, turtles, water monitors and in the evening wild elephants! Rooms were spacious, clean and comfy. Close to town.
