The heat was out in the guest rooms at the El Tovar, so we were offered a view room at Kachina Lodge. It was roomier, but we were really looking forward to staying at El Tovar.

A miss on small things, especially when spending $400 a night. Two mornings in a row the coffee provided on second floor was only warm. This historic hotel has several common area fireplaces, but little or no effort to have a fire burning. If there was a fire, it was a small burning ember. Roaring fireplaces would have been a nice touch since it is winter and the hotel’s central heat was not working. I still recommend staying here due to very close proximity to canyon. Also, the El Tovar main dining has a very good menu and excellent staff.
