    Birthday treat at The Ritz

    We stayed here for my husband's birthday. All the staff were extremely helpful and lovely to talk to. The hotel is very grand but the room and bathroom are looking a little tired now. My husband was given a little cake which was delicious and the room was very spacious. No tea/coffee making facilities in the room which was a shame but a very enjoyable stay nonetheless.

    The reception check-in desk was not friendly. The lady who initially checked me in was not smiling. Their politeness seemed very unnatural and fake (they seemed robotic), nothing humanistic about their service. The doormen helped me with unloading my luggage from the Uber car. Then instead of walking me to the front desk they gave me directions (luckily I paid attention to their instructions as there were two desks immediately by the front lobby). I paid in advance for their room via a booking site, but instead of showing me to my room, and because my husband had the credit card (who was in another taxi coming from separate airport from a different business trip to me) I was told that I can wait in their 'cafe bar' area whilst we wait for my husband. The lady from check-in could see that I was unwell (cold and flu) and didn't even make an exception to their rules to offer me to check into my room regardless. When I got to the cafe bar, the waiters escorted me to a corner, left me with a drinks menu (even though what appeared to be a tea time event) so I didn't even get offered food menu. No service staff at the cafe bar bothered to find out if I was ok as they did with other customers, or if I was hungry. I had to raise my hand to get their attention to order tea. I was left for over an hour, paid & left to walk around the city until my husband arrived.
