Though this property looks presentable from the outside - BEWARE! Think Hotel Cecil. Check in was fine, the issues began when we got to the only working lift, which fitted 2 people and 2 bags, was circa 1950, and took an eternity (ultimately we took the multiple flights of stairs to avoid this). We then had to wind our way around hundreds of stairs and narrow uneven corridors with hundreds of flies and squeaky floors. Got to our room, and felt like we stepped back to 1965. Beds so uncomfortable you can feel the springs, an avocado bathroom my granny would be at home in, slide windows that would take off your finger if they slammed shut, a musty odour we never figured out where it came from, and floors that sounded like we were wandering around a condemned house. The door to our room did not lock, and when I asked the reception (which I had to walk 7000 stairs to get back to), he came up and confirmed the lock didn’t work (no kidding) and said he would send maintenance first thing. So barricaded it with furniture for the night. Maintenance never came the next day, so barricaded ourselves in again. I told them on check out, no one was interested. Oh, and the TV was older than me, and didn’t work. The place is a disaster. Not sure what hotel the good reviews on here were staying at. Without a mega makeover the place is horrible at best.

Lovely old English building but rooms very dated, old and small, but very clean which is most important for me.
Close to public transport..
Hyde park and Kensington Garden across the street.

Great location in terms of transportation (bus stop out the front, in between two tube stations, and 10-15 minute walk to Paddington Station), and Hyde Park located across the road. The hotel also allows you to store your luggage after checkout.
