    Great Stay, made welcome throughout

Staff were extremely helpful and cheerful right from our arrival throughout our stay. No question or request was too much, and answers were given with a smile. Breakfast was very good with a wide range of choice. Excellent service and happy stay.

Lovely building, good location, could be better

The good: Good location just outside Apsley. Driveway needs a bit of TLC but parking excellent and spacious. We stayed in the Old Manor House and it was a big space, comfortable bed and large bathroom. Good tea/ coffee facilities and fresh milk if you want it. The bad: (room 7) carpets are elderly, stained and wrinkly-could do with being replaced. Stains on the wall near dressing table. Tea? Large cracks in bathroom floor tiles. Shower pressure is amazing, however the drainage is not so the bath was almost full after a 5min shower. The ugly: Service is hit and miss. The lady checking us in was great-there was a party that evening and she was happy to move us if we wanted. When trying to locate fresh milk, I went to reception and no-one was in sight. I waited for about 5min and ventured into the empty restaurant where I was eventually helped. When checking out, the 'holding deposit' on my card had actually been debited as a charge. The hotel insisted it was a holding deposit and would be released. My receipt said it was a charge. Reception eventually accepted this, saying it was instead charged to cover the cost of the (fully prepaid) room. I said I had prepaid and was told I had not. This discussion continued until I agreed to disagree and sort it out later. Not ideal. And no real apology either.

    Shendish Manor

First visit to Shendish Manor. They kindly upgrade my room as it was my birthday. Christina on the front desk was lovely and so helpful. Lovely old building full of character and good parking.
