Booked a week before arriving- was called 5 times the day of booking to put a pre order and payment through for dinner on New Year’s Day. Was not made clear on third party website or owned website that this was the case. Food was good although some dishes were underwhelming. Service was good. Spa was ok- heated beds and aromatherapy room did not seem to be fully functioning. We feel it would benefit from better lighting in hot tub and more care. Hotel room had a leak in the night in two places. We understand that this is an old building and is part of a problem with this. Previous guests takeaway boxes were left out on balcony decking. Stay was ok but would not return as looks to be better offering in area.

Great Stay
We had a great stay. The hotel was lovely, as was the team that ran it. We enjoyed everything we ate. Our room had a view of the Fells and the sound of the river running by; we were able to sit on the veranda and enjoy a coffee to that sound and view. The spa was so relaxing, with a sauna were you add your own water with a wooden ladle, which is great for getting it to a heat of your choosing. Dog friendly (certain rooms). Located in beautiful Grasmere. Would recommend and stay again.

Rothay - becoming a favourite
We visit the lakes roughly once a month and this is becoming one of our winter favourites. Rooms are warm and cosy, staff are friendly and efficient, the hotel is well positioned for countless walks but just a short walk from Grasmere centre. The sauna and spa area are a lovely way to finish off from a day in the hills. Less pretentious (and expensive) than some of the hotels in the area, it’s still really comfortable

We had such an amazing stay I can’t reccomend this place more. The spa was so lovely and calming and the local town was just a walk away. We had breakfast which was the best ever and also ate in the restraunt in the evening and had steak, incredible! It was our honeymoon and they made us feel so special. Five star!
