    Disappointed in that the room stank of cigarette smoke on arrival. Had to leave the window open and remove cigarette butt from window ledge. Probably due a refurbishment of bedrooms.

    Poor dining experience.

    Hotel is spotless and comfortable.Staff are friendly and efficient and breakfast was very good. The only drawback was the evenings meal , which was probably the worst meal I have ever had. The menus were presented and withdrawn minutes later because there were problems in the kitchen. A piece of paper with approximately 4 choices was given so chilli was ordered.Chick peas and pellets of chicken was served in a sauce with rice. The other person had pie with a dollop of mashed potato ( no veg offered ). The fruit crumble was summer berries heated and sprinkled with a few crumbs. It was so liquid it could have been drunk. We had 3 glasses of wine and one pint of lager between us but the £75 was still excessive in view of the awful meal. Yes - we would stay again but never dine in the hotel.

    another pleasant stay

    I stay here fairly frequently as it is such good value in the winter. All the rooms have everything you need, proper hairdryer, iron, ironing board, safe, comfy seat, table , hanging space , kettle with mugs and plenty of plugs. The walls are a bit scuffed at the doors with cases being brought in and out but other than that the decor is acceptable. Plenty of parking though you have to pay, it used to be free so the charge is a disappointment. I had a nice bright room on the 4th floor at the floor as requested. This gave me a view of the pond and my car. I didn't have breakfast this time. Only a few niggles this time, the bedsheet had no mattress protector and there was an irritating button on the mattress which like the Princess and the Pea was a bit uncomfortable. There was a dirty washcloth lying on the safe. I assumed the maid had been disturbed and just forgotten it but it was still there the second night. The first day there was only decaf coffee sachets but there was some nice Earl Gray tea and some cranberry and raspberry so I had that instead. The second night plenty of coffee proper and decaf but no Earl Gray or Cranberry, lots of peppermint. What you get seems a bit haphazard but it all added to the fun. It was easy to adapt the heating to a level of comfort.

    I loved that the property is located right next to a pond with birds and other wildlife. It’s a relaxing, peaceful element that is right outside the door. The staff are fantastic. George, Alexandra and Scott were very welcoming and always up for a chat. They had advice on places to see and things to do as well as simply being very fun and energetic. I was disappointed with a few things. There are no ice machines. Ice is available if you ask at the bar and they provide a bucket and glasses and bottle opener if you need it, which is nice and accommodating, but a little inconvenient. Secondly, I found the food very expensive. It was all right, but very overpriced. £11 for breakfast also seems excessive. And third, I feel that the place could use some upgrades. New carpets and paint and things like that. I understand the hotel only recently changed names so maybe that is in the plans already.
