About this property

Beautiful 18th Century Limestone Farmhouse In The Peak National Park

Sleeping up to 9, Lower Farm is a five bedroom, three bathroom, south-facing farmhouse tucked into the hillside with beautiful uninterrupted views across the valley. The farmhouse is one of four farms that make up the hamlet of Brushfield, 10 minutes from Buxton and Bakewell. There are many spectacular walks from the bridleway lane in front of the house, including the Monsal Trail, (with the excellent Monsal Head pub en route), Cressbrook Dale, High Dale and the beautiful River Wye. The house has a small, enclosed lawn and pretty cottage garden, three stone terraces (two south-facing for al fresco eating; one tucked round the back with a 10’ netted trampoline for the kids), front and back crofts, often occupied by some friendly sheep and lambs, and a garage opposite.
The layout of the house suits two families particularly well, with each of the upstairs double bedrooms having its own bathroom and bunk bedroom off its own landing. With larger groups of adults only it's worth nothing that while the dining room seats up to nine, the living room sofas are designed to seat five or six. (There is a cushioned window seat too and a thick rug, so we regularly have family groups of nine adults squeezing in, but the seating is limited by the 18th century sized rooms!)
It's worth noting that while the house can accommodate nine people, the ideal number is eight and we charge an additional nightly fee of £30/night for a ninth guest.
One last thing to highlight for potential guests: our TV only plays DVDs (there is a large library of excellent movies), so while Lower Farm has pretty good WiFi, there is no 'live' TV. There are loads of board games and fun stuff to do in the dining room cupboards.

Covid19 Update. Our Lower Farm housekeeping team (wearing suitable PPE) will be following a cleaning routine based on industry standards and government guidance, using disinfectants appropriate for Covid19 removal. We are ensuring a minimum of 48 hours between guest bookings to keep our cleaning team and guests as safe as possible. Any questions on this, please contact us directly.

Great house in a beautiful place
Lovely house in a beautiful location that is quiet and relaxing. 3 good sized double rooms and 2 bunk bed rooms, loved cooking on the aga. A large dining table we could all fit round and the log burner made the lounge cozy and warm.

Long weekend
A beautiful well appointed house in a wonderful location. Attentive host/owner who ensured the house was warm and welcoming. We were a group of 5 middle aged blokes on a mountain biking long weekend and it was perfect for us. Great access to local trails and pubs, although the track to Little Longstone and the Packhorse was tough on the return trip! Parking is absolutely 2 cars/vans only, but this is made clear when booking. Would highly recommend.

Lower Farm - Brushfield
Our three-part family (daughter, her husband and baby, son and partner and Ralph and I) spent four nights here as we explored the Peak District. The unique old house was great for us as we each had our own space (bed and bath) and communal space, too. We loved the walks and country views.
