Immaculate but has staff, service and food issues

It was a welcome change not having to ask for another room, or a refund. I found this hotel very cosy, clean and well maintained. Room was very peaceful, although we appeared to be one of only two bookings on that Saturday night. It’s restaurant menu is lacking flair; my steak had no evidence of searing, was served with stone cold grilled mushroom and tomato’s; I politely mentioned this, got a sincere apology but no fresh serving, so had to eat the cold ones! I expected better quality for the prices charged. It advertises itself as being family friendly, but I couldn’t find a kids menu, so had to pay full price for a meal only half eaten (including £12.50 for half a plain pancake at breakfast) My main issue with this hotel is the staff; the lack of facial expression made me feel like most of them would rather be somewhere else, which was not very welcoming. On checking out I didn’t get any pleasantries at all, no ‘how was your stay’, ‘hope to see you again’, nothing but an accusatory statement that ‘You still have to settle for breakfast’. Very rude. My summary: some staff training (including chef) to promote enthusiastic customer service is needed here. Fix menu options and prices. I have since found a cheaper, more professional option with a better location for my frequent visits to the area. That’s a shame because my first impression was very good. Best suited to business users visiting the BAe plant opposite.

A lovely place to stay. Staff were great and nothing was too much trouble. Food was lovely on an evening. Room was fab.
