I lived in New Smyrna for years and moved to Oviedo area when my kids started school, so I try to make it back several times a year with my kids and I always make a special trip alone for my birthday. I pick a different hotel to visit to rest and reset for the incoming year. This year I choose The Shores Resort and Spa. I would say overall the property is decent, but the trip was pretty rocky.
The cons: the first morning I was there I went to go enjoy the sunrise by the pool with a friend and when I sat down on the chair by the pool and noticed there was a bra, underwear and sanitary napkin under the seating. My friend had to go to the room get a bunch of toilet paper to dispose of the undergarments/sanitary napkin. There was trash (lighters, clothes, towels) littered all around the hot tub area and it was pretty busy with morning traffic of hotel guests coming out to enjoy the sunrise, but there was no attendants outside to tidy up the debris, litter and towels around the pool and hot tub area from the night before, most hotels I've stayed at the staff is out early in the morning to make sure the pool is ready for hotel guests for the day, I didn't see any attendant's until around 10am. Also the smell inside the lobby and hallways I enjoyed when I first arrived, but the smell quickly became overpowering for the rest of the duration of my stay, smelling like stale perfume-- so I avoided the hallways and lobby as much as possible. The AC in the room wouldn't go below 71 degr
