Kiwis travelling close to home this Easter

AUCKLAND – 3 April 2012

Kiwis are planning to stay close to home when they travel this Easter, according to the latest Wotif.co.nz travel survey.

The poll of more than 8,000 Kiwis found 47% are planning local and domestic travel this long weekend.

General Manager Wotif.co.nz Brand, Megan Magill said Kiwis voted Auckland as their favourite destination this Easter, followed closely by Taupo and Wellington.

“Almost one in two people told us they’re planning to travel close to home this Easter long weekend and that’s great news for the local travel industry,” Ms Magill said.

“A city break in Auckland or Wellington is popular, but it’s also one last chance to take a break at Taupo and enjoy the lake before winter arrives,” she said.

"It's also interesting to see that 31% of people surveyed said they'd be spending the Easter long weekend on their couch," Ms Magill said.

The most popular Easter destinations as voted by more than 8,000 Kiwis:

1 Auckland
2 Taupo
3 Wellington
