WILDLIFE & NATURE
Bundala National Park
Bundala is a wonderful introduction to the country's National Parks. It is famous for its diversity and profusion of aquatic bird life which feed on the rich harvest provided by the numerous lagoons throughout the park.It forms the most important wetland sanctuary, outside of the Northern province, for migratory shore-birds.
The rare Black-necked stork and Great Thick-knee are particular birding highlights. It is easy to spot Blue-tailed Bee-eater,Spoonbill,Red Shank, Green Shank,Spot-billed Pelican,Blue-faced Malkoha,Brahminy Kite,Crested Hawk eagle and Brown Strike.
The park covers approximately 6000 hectares of brackish lagoons, salt pans,inter-tidal mudflats and thorny scrub jungle.
There is a small population of elephants which are fairly easy to spot in the open habitat.. As well as elephant there are sloth bears, jackals, giant squirrels,Indian pangolin and civet cats. Marsh and estuarine crocodiles are both found in Bundala in addition to monitor lizards and a variety of other reptiles.
Yala National Park
Spanning a vast 97.878 hectares over the Southern and Uva Provinces,Yala is the largest and most famous National park in Sri Lanka boasts the world’s largest population of leopards. You are likely also to see elephants, sloth bears, deers, wild boars, buffaloes, and monkeys.Birds are in profusion–up to 130 species.
Kindly note that Yala closes its gates in September/ October during mating season.
Both parks are located some 100km from our resort however the road conditions are not from the best on the island,it takes more than 3 hours to reach there.
Due to this fact and regard to your comfort we highly recommend you to experience afternoon safari which starts at parks gate at 2pm and be back for late dinner.
For those who would like to expirience both parks,we can offer 2day/1nite stay.

Uda Walave
Uda Walawe is the best park in Sri Lanka to watch and photograph wild elephants.Surroundings consists of a mixture of scrubland and teak forest. The lack of forest in some areas is due to the extensive slash-and-burn farming that was once practised in this area.Uda Walawe became the country's fifth National Park in 1972.
The park supports approximately five hundred elephants and herds of over 50 individuals are not uncommon, the forest cover is also limited by their de-barking of the trees.
As well as elephant it is home to many other animals including sambar, barking deer, water buffalo, jackals, sloth bears and three varieties of mongoose. This is also a great park for birds, in particular raptors such as the Crested Serpent Eagle and the Grey Headed Fishing Eagle as well as arid-country specialists including the Malabar Pied Hornbill and Blue-faced Malkoha.
Uda Walave is closer than two previous parks so that both morning and evening safaris are recommended.

Sinharaja
Sinharaja is a must-see for all keen birders as well as a great location for general wildlife enthusiasts. It is one of the few protected areas in Sri Lanka where visitors are permitted to walk in the interior.Sinharaga, which translates as 'Lion King',covers an area of nearly 19,000 hectares close to the gem-mining town of Ratnapura, and consists of natural rain forest as well as introduced species, such as teak and mahogany. The reserve was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1989.
This lowland forest is considered to be one of the best birding sites in Sri Lanka with 22 out of Sri Lanka's 26 endemic birds having been sighted here, and large mixed feeding flocks providing an unusual spectacle.Even the less experienced birder would hope to see 10-15 endemics during their stay; avian highlights include the Red-Faced Malkoha,Sri Lanka Frogmouth,Spot-Winged Thrush and Malabar Trogon. However it is not just birds that attract the visitors, over 60% of the country's endemic tree species are found here, along with an impressive list of butterfly, insect, amphibian and reptile species, again many are endemic.
Same time you would have a good chance of seeing Giant Squirrels,Mongoose,Purple-Faced Langur, Wild Boar and Barking Deer.Rarer species include Rusty-Spotted cats,Fishing Cats,Indian Civet Cats and Porcupine.
You should wake up early to catch sunrise on your way and witness the morning mist of the rainforest.Believe, that is´s worth and don´t forget your swimwear, there´s a secret pool deep in the jungle.
