Karlovy Vary is the biggest and most well-known spa resort in the Czech Republic. It became famous thanks to its unique, hot, healing springs, whose significance has not been depreciated by medical advances. Karlovy Vary has a history stretching back over 600 years. The resort is located in the beautiful valley of the Tepla River and surprises everyone with its warm and welcoming atmosphere. In the centre of Karlovy Vary you will find spa colonnades with hot healing springs and architectural sights, including Baroque and Art Nouveau historical buildings.
The Church of St. Mary Magdalene is the most significant architectural structure in Karlovy Vary. It was built in the course of years from 1732 to 1736 according to the design of the renowned architect, K.I. Diezenhofer. Apart from its rich interior, two Gothic Madonna statues, baroque altar sculptures by Jakob Eberl and an altar painting by Elias Dollhopf are of immense cultural and historical value. Mill colonnade - this promenade arcade was constructed in the course of years from 1871 to 1881 in Classicist style according to the design of Josef Zitek. The colonnade terrace is decorated with 12 allegoric statues representing the months of the year. Various concerts are organized throughout the year at the colonnade. Plague Pillar - the unique Baroque pillar was created by sculptor J. O. Wenda
built in 1716 as symbol of gratitude for saving the town from the plague. You ought not miss the noble scene of the coronation of Mary. Market - it belongs to the oldest parts of Karlovy Vary. King Charles IV built a small hunting chateau here in 1358, unfortunately, only the chateau tower has been preserved since the great fire of the town in 1604. Thermal Hot Spring Colonnade - this two-floor steel structure built in 1975 houses the world-famous Karlovy Vary springs. The temperature in the bassin containing the warmest spring reaches 72�C. The water pressure at 2,000 metres below the surface pushes out the Geyser 12 metres above the ground. Moser Glassworks - they have been in operation in Karlovy Vary for more than 100 years. The famous glassworks bear the name of their founder, i.e. Ludwig Moser (1833 ? 1916).You may find a shop and an exhibition of glass making directly at the glassworks. Becherovka Herbal Liquer - it is often called the 13th Karlovy Vary spring, this world-renowned
herbal liqueur was created by a pharmacist from Karlovy Vary, Johann Becher. The herbal liqueur is suitable for all occasions, as an aperitif, a long drink or as a bitter digestive liquer. You are welcome to visit the Jan Becher Museum with hall of traditions, historical and production cellars and of course, tasting.
