A blend of history and new attractions brings visitors from around the world to the area.

Dining:
Dining in Williamsburg indulges every mood, satisfies any whim and fits every budget. Some of the popular favorites include ham and local ocean fare restaurants where you're dining within hours of the boats coming in. But you can also find German, French, Mexican, Chinese, Italian and more. You can also try elegant teas or dinners in colonial homes. The dilemma is choosing.

History:
Perhaps nowhere else does the exciting story of America's past come to life more vividly than in Virginia's Historic Triangle. Jamestown is where America began when, in 1607, a few hardy souls carved out of the wilderness the first permanent English settlement in the New World. Colonial Williamsburg is the world's premier living history site, an entire town that has been restored to the days when Williamsburg was the political and economic center of the Virginia colony. But Colonial Williamsburg isn't just a museum of restored buildings and artifacts. It's a living community where merchants sell their wares, crafts-people ply their trades and brave patriots whisper plans for revolution. Our nation's freedom was won in nearby Yorktown, where General George Washington defeated England's General Cornwallis in 1781 in the decisive battle of the American Revolution.

Nightlife:
You can find a wide variety of events in the area at night. Enjoy candlelit walking tours, live music theatre, blues music, murder mystery dinners, sports taverns, Medieval dinner theatre, comedy clubs and more.

Plantations:
Early colonists in the area anticipated a sort of New World version of English village life. Yet they ended up building an economy, agriculture and lifestyle unique in place and time, a system that ruled the South for a rough 100 years from the mid 18th-century to the Civil War. Today James River Plantations are the best examples of what remains of that incredible era. Each is a glorious living monument to an elegant era.

Shopping:
From prized antiques and hand-crafted colonial reproductions to fabulous discounts in outlet stores, there's something for every fashion taste and budget. With more than 150 factory and designer outlet stores at Patriot Plaza Premium Outlets, Prime Outlets at Williamsburg and the Williamsburg Outlet Mall; the famous Williamsburg Pottery Factory and The Candle Factory; and the one-of-a-kind specialty stores at Merchants Square even the most ardent shopper will find it difficult to do it all.

Sports & Recreation:

Golf:
Williamsburg is also becoming well known for its vast and continuously expanding golf resorts. In the near future there could be as many as 17 to 21 courses, between the Tidewater area and Richmond, for residents and visitors to choose from. Courses include Jack Nicklaus' team-designed Williamsburg National, a championship golf course that was voted by Golf Digest as one of the top 10 places to play in Virginia.

Other sports:
Year-round sports include hiking, biking, fishing, canoeing, and bird-watching. Winter sports: Snow skiing and snow boarding can be found about an hour away in Norfolk and Richmond.

Theme Parks:
Step into the charmed world of Busch Gardens Williamsburg. This European-themed adventure park boasts excitement for the entire family. Soar on world record-breaking roller coasters, dine on authentic European cuisine, mingle with international master artisans and enjoy live shows. Experience the exquisite beauty of the world's "Most Beautiful Theme Park" nestled on 100 acres of unparalleled fun and adventure with more than 50 attractions.
Surf's up and every day is a beach party at Water Country USA. The mid-Atlantic's largest water park thrills guests with more than 30 water rides and attractions, Live entertainment, poolside shopping and tasty eateries. The carefree surf style of the 1950s and '60s theme makes this a groovy water playland.
