Most travellers understandably flock to the crisp sands and silky waters of Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao but mainland Surat Thani has plenty to offer too. Surat Thani town can be reached by bus, train or plane from Bangkok and in case you get stuck there for a night or two there is enough to keep you entertained. Arguably the highlight of the town is the night market which is overflowing with delicious food and snacks likely to keep you full for hours to come. As travellers frequently pass through the town there are also opportunities to grab a drink at a bar. From the town, transport to the pier is simple enough and from there you have the choice of heading to luxury Samui, partying Phangan or scuba diving-centric Koh Tao.

From our Surat Thani hotels there is also the option to head West to Khao Sok National Park. Although part of the province it is quite a way from town and only recommended if you have the time. The park is teeming with natural beauty including a huge variety of wild animals and the famous Rafflesia flower which can weigh up to seven kilograms and stinks of rotting rubbish. Hiking on foot and on an elephant can be done here as well as canoeing and rafting.
