Wat Arun, also known as the Temple of the Dawn, contains five prangs, or towers, covered in thousands of pieces of multicoloured Chinese porcelain. The Grand Palace is not to be missed and the complex also contains the Temple of the Emerald Buddha.

Or visit Lumpini Stadium Rama IV, to see a Muay Thai (Thai kick boxing) match. Or take a cruise along the canals, also known as klongs, and experience the different way of life of the klong dwellers. Or, finally, see the impressive barges used in the Royal river processions at the Royal Barge Museum. The most impressive and important boat on display is the King's personal barge, built in 1911 from a single tree, it is 46 m long and covered with intricate gilt carvings and colourful pieces of glass.
