Mittagong is another of the Southern Highland's beautiful and charming towns. First settled in the early 1800's, it was established before its neighbours. Mittagong is situated on the northern side of Mount Gibraltar and is quickly accessed from Sydney and Canberra. It was originally thought that the town held promise as an industrial centre with the establishment of mining companies in the area, however this was not to be and today the town stands as an unspoilt rural centre and as a tourist destination in its own right.
