Hearst Castle - Magnificent Hearst Castle is a Historic mansion built by the ate newspaper magnate, William Randolph Hearst. The architectural treasure, sitting majestically on 123 acres overlooking the Pacific Ocean, is a 45-minute scenic drive north of the Sands Inn & Suites. In the palatial home - with its exquisitely furnished 38 bedrooms, 31 baths, plush movie theater, 14 sitting rooms, and spectacular pool - are priceless artworks and antiques that Hearst collected worldwide. Outside you will view the Roman pool, fountains and statuary, manicured gardens - staggering elegance that rivals any foreign palace.

Farmers Market - You will be within walking distance of this tremendously popular street fair, going on downtown every Thursday evening (Or take the bus which stops right outside our hotel and costs only -.25 cents!). Experience everything from live music to dancing troupes to kids-face painting. There is a wide variety of food from the many restaurants, bistros, and fine local growers.

California Polytechnic State University - Visitors are welcome to tour the campus, a 5,169 acre site. Of special interest are the Gallery, the Shakespeare Press Museum, and a student store, where you may buy crop and dairy items produced at Cal Poly.

The Mission - In the heart of downtown is the fully restored Mission established by Father Junipero Serra in 1772.
