Sails in the Desert

Sails in the Desert

In the heart of Australia’s Red Centre, Sails in the Desert hotel beautifully contrasts Uluru’s raw natural beauty with a decidedly luxurious outback holiday experience. Soaring white sails crown Ayers Rock Resort’s Sails in the Desert hotel, shading 228 luxury five star rooms and suites. In a destination where one of the world’s oldest cultures still thrives, the mystery, colour and wisdom of the local Anangu people is interwoven into every facet of Sails in the Desert’s modern design.

Visit the Resort Visitor Information Centre to look a wide range of guided tours (fees apply) and organise your journey into the homeland of Anangu (the local Aboriginal people). You can embark on a base walk of Uluru (Ayers Rock). Hike through the Valley of the Winds at Kata Tjuta (the Olgas), take a ride on a Harley Davidson, or take a birds-eye view in a helicopter.

By night, some tours include dining under a canopy of stars accompanied by the ancient sounds of a lone didgeridoo at the award-winning Sounds of Silence dinner. Or indulge yourself in 'Tali Wiru', meaning beautiful dune in local Anangu language, encapsulates the magic of fine dining under the southern desert sky.

The resort also has a wide range of free activities, including guided or self guided garden walks through local native flora, Indigenous art classes for kids, sit down for a bush yarn in the Circle of Sand with a local Anangu storyteller, learn how to throw a spear or boomerang with an Indigenous guide, listen to the enchanting sounds of the didgeridoo, support local artists and browse the many art pieces at the Indigenous art markets or marvel at the traditional Indigenous dance performance where audience participation is encouraged and rare photo opportunities with the performers will ensure you will never forget this unique experience.
