The Red Lion Inn, East Maitland, is located in the heart of the Hunter Valley, ideally positioned a comfortable 30 minute drive to the fabulous vineyards of Pokolbin, the beautiful beaches of Port Stephens and the bright lights of Newcastle.
Originally beginning life as a licensed Inn during the 1850’s, the property was later converted to a private home. Now seeing in her third century, the Red Lion Inn has been restored to incorporate period furnishings in keeping with the style of this beautiful building without forgoing the comforts that modern travellers require.

Five minutes to Maitland CBD with its shopping, Regional Art Gallery, Heritage Trail walks, cinemas, sporting events and dining.
Five minutes to the historic Maitland Gaol. Opened in 1848, it was the longest continuously operating correctional facility in Australia until its closure in 1998. It is now open for self-guided or themed tours, ranging from history to psychic themes, as well as being available for functions.
If you enjoy sports, we are directly across from Easts Bowls Club and only a 5 minute drive to Easts Leisure and Golf Club.
The historic port town of Morpeth is 10 minutes away. You can wander the stone paved streets and explore galleries, boutiques, collectables and dining specialty stores. You can also take a leisurely horse and carriage ride where you can fully appreciate the historic architecture of this well preserved port town. Cruises between Morpeth and Newcastle are also available.
You can explore the nearby vineyards which are only 30 minutes away. You can create your own itinerary or you may wish to relax and have someone else do all the driving. Tours are available to collect you from our door in the morning and drop you back off in the afternoon.
The beautiful, pristine beaches of Nelson’s Bay and Newcastle are also only 30 minutes away.
