Radeka Downunder Coober Pedy

The Radeka Downunder "Desert Breakaways Tour" is a Daily 4 Hour informative look at Coober Pedy and the nearby Breakaways Scenic Reserve. It departs Radekas Daily at 1pm, 365 Days a Year, and returns at 5pm. Our guides are long term Opal Miners, they explain and show all aspects of our industry and why most of us choose to live underground. (Warm in Winter, Cool in Summer).
The Tour visits an Underground Church, Historic Town Sites, our treasured and famous 18 Hole Grassless Golf Course with "Oiled Greens", Underground Home, Underground Mine, the Opal Fields showing you the Claims, Machinery and the 30m Deep 1m Wide Shafts, plus Open Cuts. About 20 - 30 minutes is taken for "Noodling" (Fossicking) for your own Opal on the Fields. You keep what you find.
The Tour then heads to the Breakaways Scenic Reserve, where 10 Feature Movies have been made since 1984 including Mad Max 3 Beyond Thunderdome, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Pitch Black, Mars: The Red Planet & Kangaroo Jack. We head back to Coober Pedy along The Dog Fence (the longest fence in the world), the Moon Plain Desert and the Oodnadatta Road.

"2011 Special"

Free Night Sky Presentation.

Book into any of our Accommodation types for 2 consecutive nights between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2011 and take any 1 of our Day Time Tours and we will provide you free of charge with a 40 minute Presentation of the Southern Night Sky, conditional on being a cloud free night.

We depart Radeka Downunder after dark and take you a short distance out of town into the outback desert away from the lights. Learn the Southern Cross Constellation and how it moves around the South Pole in the Sky. There will be many other constellations in the sky on the night and some planets and maybe even shooting stars and man made satellites. Viewing is by naked eye and free use of our binoculars. This activity is Fun & Educational and is suitable for any Age or Nationality.

Please note that the Free Night Sky Presentation is provided by us as an extra optional activity for staying 2 nights and doing 1 of our day time tours, if it is a cloudy night and the presentation does not go ahead there is no refund of any money paid for the Accommodation and Day Time Tour.
