Gisborne, the first city in the world to see the sun and is a great seaside destination. Our coastal city is a special place to relax and enjoy time away from busy lifestyles.
Natural attractions include perfect swimming beaches, renowned surfing breaks and peaceful areas of untouched coastline. There are many garden attractions, bush and farm walks, great fly-fishing rivers and award winning wineries.
Historic buldings such as Wyllie Cottage, Gisborne's first house, built in 1872. A Visit to Poho-o-Rawiri, a Maori meetinghouse which is beautifully carved is a must for those interested in Maori culture, along with the Museum and Arts Centre and East Coast Museum of Technology.
Poverty Bay flats are one of New Zealand’s major wine producing areas and there are wineries where visitors can enjoy tastings and tours.
A short drive south to Morere Hot Springs where you can picnic, take a bush walk to private hot pools or enjoy the larger public pools in the complex. Eastwood Hill Arboretum to the west of Gisborne is a world class arboretum. There are many public walks through the trees and gardens and a visit whilst in the area to the picturesque Rere Falls nearby is a must.
For golfers Gisborne has good quality golf courses both in the city and surrounding district.
