Here at Murwillumbah, Mt. Warning Backpackers YHA, stunning views can be seen from our verandah. We have riverside gardens and peaceful swimming. The home was built in 1922 as a river captain’s home and the architecture and character has been maintained, however bright colours and quirky decor have been added to provide a happy atmosphere. Free ice cream is served at 9pm to gather guests together for conversation and board games.

Guests can hire a hostel kayak and paddle on a tranquil creek featuring wild birds and animals. Bicycles can be hired at the hostel and within minutes one can be cycling in the photogenic scenic countryside. Climb Mt Warning free transport for guests who stay three nights. Murwillumbah is ringed by mountains, which form the largest caldera (crater) in the southern hemisphere. These mountains are National parks, containing waterfalls, rock pools and rainforest. It’s a great base to explore the national parks, and secluded beaches that are a 30 minute drive away. The town has art-deco buildings and old style friendly service. You’ll have a unique off the beaten track experience, as there are few tourists. You see a genuine Aussie community with ladies with prams, farmers in gumboots, the occasional hippy or Hare Krishna while older people watch the passing parade. Murals can be viewed on our artistic toilets. The levee wall has graffiti on one side and murals on the other. The Tweed River Art Gallery is the home for seven of the famous Doug Moran Portraits plus travelling exhibitions.
