Famous for its paradisiacal off-shore islands, the State of Terengganu can boast sun, sea, swaying palms, tantalising Malay cuisine and culture in abundance. We offer a host of Terengganu hotels on the island getaways and on the mainland where there is plenty to explore and enjoy. Pulau Redang is the largest and best known of Terengganu's islands due to its classic tropical landscapes and its unbelievable sea life which makes it a haven for divers. The diving and snorkelling here is known as some of the best in Malaysia because the coral reefs sparkle with dazzling colours, turtles and strangely patterned fish casually swim around and the waters are crystal clear. After emerging from the sea you will find the beaches to be equally enchanting and will be torn deciding how to divide your time between the two. The other offshore Terengganu island worthy of your attention is Palau Perhentian which is less built up than Redang but offers the same stunning settings. The capital of the region is Kuala Terengganu and this coastal city can be used as a launch pad to the islands. From one of our Kuala Terengganu hotels we recommend roaming the streets on the hunt for the diverse and delicious Malay cuisine. One of the best places to gorge on regional dishes is Batu Buruk Food Centre and for a Chinese slant head to the Hawker Centre in Chinatown. Mainland Terengganu is also home to some natural wonders and the cascading Chemerong Waterfall, which falls from a height of 300 metres, is one of the best. Alternately the man-made Kenyir Lake is another beautiful spot full of stunning views, thick forests and the option of boating. From your hotel in Terengganu, the fishing village of Marang is ideal to submerge in some local culture and to witness life outside of the more popular tourist areas. |
