Sestiere Giudecca, is the perfect base for a relaxed self-catering break combining the charm of the ‘urban village’ experience of the real lived-in Venice – with its excellent local shops and restaurants -with easy access to all the must-see tourist hot-spots. A lovely Venetian corner, a one minute vaporetto (water bus) ride across the Giudecca Canal from the local stop, Palanca, and you are on the Zattere, the wide canal-front promenade that runs the entire length of Dorsoduro. It is three minutes walk from here to the Accademia, which houses the greatest collection of Renaissance paintings in Venice, and the Accademia Bridge over the Grand Canal. Alternatively, a five minute vaporetto ride from Redentore or Palanca takes you directly to St Mark’s Square and the Doge’s Palace.
