Fraser Island, the world’s largest sand island, is a miracle of nature. It is famous for its ancient rainforests, mighty sand dunes, pristine freshwater lakes and streams and an abundance of birds and wildlife. On the ocean side of the island, the sands of Seventy-Five Mile Beach stretch beyond the horizon. Aboriginal history claims the island as K’gari, meaning paradise. European history is rich with tales of shipwrecks, logging and sand mining. Its World Heritage listing ranks Fraser Island with Uluru, Kakadu and the Great Barrier Reef.

Fraser Island is not just a four-wheel driving beach adventure. Kingfisher Bay is a true beach holiday destination where you can stroll along deserted beaches leaving foot prints in the sand, sip cocktails as the sun sets over the sea and count the stars in the clear southern sky - so close you feel you could reach out and touch them.
Find your own private spot on the beach to watch the sunset sea or gather at the bar of the Jetty Hut. Sunset champagne cruises are available as well.
The calm waters are a haven for swimming, sailing, canoeing and fishing. Rangers guide canoe paddles and teach novices how sail. Daily sailing trips go out to seek dolphins, dugong, and turtles and, from August to October, migrating humpback whales.
Free learn to fish clinics are held daily and all fishing gear can be hired or purchased from the Jetty Hut. Go fishing and get chef in the Sand Bar to cook your catch.
Volley ball and games of beach cricket or bocce are popular.
At Kingfisher Bay you can do as much or as little as you want - relax with a cocktail by one of the four swimming pools, play tennis, simply bubble in a spa or indulge in a massage.
Bars and restaurants cater for every mood and pocket. Award-winning Seabelle is an a la carte restaurant where modern Australian cuisine meets bush tucker and the wine list features quality Australian wines.
In Maheno, overlooking the pool, you’ll find hot and cold buffets with food themes changing each night and the fresh seafood on Fridays and Saturdays. At the Sand Bar, by the beach, you can dine al fresco and this bistro also has great pizza. The cafe in the Shopping Village is the place to pick up a picnic or take a coffee break.
The resort has an excellent food and wine tasting program to introduce guests to bush foods, Australian wines and food and wine matching.
Temperatures average 28C in summer and 22C in winter.

FREE RANGER-GUIDED BUSHWALKS & TALKS:
Join our rangers on complimentary walks and talks throughout the day. On the morning bird walk you’ll spot some of the 354 species that frequent the island including honeyeaters, eastern whip birds, rainbow bee-eaters and the brilliant azure, forest and sacred kingfishers. Find out how our plants survive in sand and how the Aborigines and early European settlers used these plants for both food and medicine. Come behind the scenes and see how Australia’s leading environmental resort operates – we have set benchmarks in ecotourism. On a night walk turn the spotlight on rare acid frogs and insectivorous bats around the resort lakes and sugar gliders as they move through the trees. Marvel at the night skies or see our slide presentation and learn to be dingo safe.

FULL DAY RANGER GUIDED 4WD TOUR:
Tours visit the island’s beauty spots including Lake McKenzie, the island’s most beautiful perched lake; tranquil Central Station where you can walk along the banks of Wanggoolba Creek, as it flows silently through rainforest; Pile Valley with its majestic satinay forest; and an ancient forest being uncovered as Stonetool Sand Blow moves across the island. You’ll also drive along famous Seventy-Five Mile Beach to swim in Eli Creek as it flows swiftly into the ocean, photograph the wreck of the cruise ship Maheno and see the coloured sands of the Pinnacles.
Rangers, experts on Fraser Island’s natural and cultural history, guide the tours conducted in modern, air-conditioned 4WD coaches. Morning tea, afternoon refreshments and a hot and cold buffet lunch are included. Pre booking is advised.

WHALE WATCHING CRUISE (AUG-OCT ONLY):
Join the Kingfisher Bay crew and cruise out to the calm waters of Platypus Bay to watch the gentle giants. They’ll blow your mind! Humpback whales at play in the calm waters just off Fraser Island. Imagine watching as an animal weighing the same as 11 elephants, propels its 15 metre body out of the water with just a few flicks of its giant tail. They often swim close to the boat. The experienced crew will add to the enjoyment of your day by explaining the whales' behaviour and making the tour educational and entertaining. The vessel is equipped with a hydrophone which allows you to listen to the musical call of the whales. There is also the opportunity to spot other marine life including dolphins, turtles and dugongs.

* Whale Watching Package available is only from Aug - mid-Oct only.
