If you have never visited the Inverell district, we are sure you will be plesantly suprised at the attractions and services the area has to offer. Inverell is popular for its great country hospitality, beautiful climate, spectacular scenery, and surprisingly great shopping.

Inverell is a mixed farming district, where the main crops are wheat, oats, barley, sorghum and oil seed crops. Sheep and cattle graze mostly on natural pastures, supplemented with lucerne and forage crops. Following is a list of some visitor favourites.

Fossicking is always a favourite with couples and families alike. Within the district there are many fossicking areas with a variety of stones which visitors may fossick for at their leisure (from tin to sapphires, quartz or maybe a diamond!). There are areas available for both beginners and the avid fossicker, or you may prefer to fossick at one of the privately operated fossicking properties, where you can go and seek along the creeks and gullies. Washtubs and equipment are provided for a fee, and picnic areas are available.

Inverell Transport Museum is another main attraction not to be missed, boasting one of Australia's largest collections of transport memorabillia consisting of a growing display of over 200 exhibits. Cars, trucks, fire engines, motor cycles, tractor bicycles, pedal cars, scooters and numerous models and transport related items make up the ever changing display. There are also some rare and exotic creations on display.

Inverell Pioneer Village will help you sense the history of Inverell and District. The authentic buildings of the village have all been collected locally, and represent the lifestyle and pioneering spirit of our forebears. There is also a large collection of working steam engines and horse drawn vehicles, from large station wagons to the graceful carriages of the gentry.

Green Valley Farm is very popular with families for a day trip. Situated 10km from Tingha, there is a playground, mini golf, a zoo, waterslides, a museum, lovely gardens and picnic area with BBQs, and a Kiosk.

Copeton Dam, (a body of water that has three times the capacity of Sydney Harbour) and Copeton Water State Park is a pleasant 40km drive from Inverell. With dam, forest, and open parkland to explore, Copeton Waters State Park beckons bushwalkers, nature lovers, and anyone who just want a "time out". There is also a picnic area, restaurant and kiosk.

Inverell Art Gallery invites visitors to view their large range of arts and crafts. A collection of original and creative works has been aqquired for permanent display. The Gallery has been extended to incorporate the historic School of Arts building, and the result is a unique, spacious Gallery and workrooms.

Lake Inverell Reserve is just east of the town centre and is an acquatic sanctuary, covering 100 hectares, which is home to a large variety of birds and waterfowl, platypi and wallabies, and a growing number of black swans. It is great for bush walking, fishing and canoeing. A BBQ area and toilet facilities are provided. For the serious bird watcher, a Hide is located within the reserve for great viewing.

There is much to do and see in the Inverell District. So why not come, stay for a day or two, and explore this lovely area.
