Welcome to Lamunu, a small, contemporary hotel encapsulating the very essence of vibrant and eclectic Braamfontein, the heart of Jo’burg business and academia.
Lamunu means “orange” in seSotho, a theme that is carried throughout this deliciously sweet and flavourful hotel.
Lamunu offers simplified comfort in a stylishly fun environment, all decked out in a retro colour-palette – bold oranges set strikingly against blacks and browns – and quirky details.

While Lamunu sits in the heart of the lively Braamfontein, Braamfontein itself sits in the heart of Johannesburg, providing easy access to some of the city’s must see attractions, and a number of them are within walking distance of the hotel.
Within walking distance (up to 3km):
•The University of Johannesburg.
•Sidewalk sculptures like the lacy silhouettes that are the Juta Street Trees and the massive 5.5 metre tall, 20 ton concrete Eland, created by well-known local artist Clive van den Berg that welcomes you at the gateway to Braamfontein.
•Restaurants and coffee shops such as Ninos coffee shop and Italian-style eatery; SP Café for excellent organic coffee and fresh sandwiches; and Narina Trogon where the beautifully styled interior is just as fabulous as the gourmet cuisine.
•Bars and cocktail lounges the likes of the super-sophisticated Randlords rooftop bar; ultra-trendy One Bar; and student hangout S Bar where beers come in affordable quart-sized bottles.
•The world-famous Joburg Theatre (once the Johannesburg Civic Theatre), where shows range from international musicals to local comedy and commentary.
•The equally famous Nelson Mandela Bridge, which soars impressively towards the sky and is South Africa’s largest cable-stayed bridge.
•The notorious Constitution Hill, where Jo’burg’s political history begins and where the Constitutional Court resides.
•The Labour Court.
•Gautrain Station, which opens in mid-2011, and will provide commuters with slick alternative transport.
•Newtown (3km), which is the multicultural home to a number of famous sights and landmarks, including the Market Theatre; Mary Fitzgerald Square, which was one of the 2010 Fifa World Cup’s official fan parks; SAB (South African Breweries) - grab a tour and taste the countries most loved ales; MuseuMAfrica; the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre and the Dance Factory; plus a host of eclectic restaurants and bars.
