There has been report lately of taxi drivers taking advantage of Tourist and individuals on business trip in Ho Chi Minh city.
Our Recommendation is to only ride in taxi that are newer vehicle and belonging to a large companies versus an independent taxi driver.(Keep an eye on the taxi meter and if you feel the price increase too fast, have the driver stop and take another taxi)

Recently, a lot of taxi driver have been reportedly trying to cheat their passengers with many tricks. Be careful of older looking taxi and independent taxi companies (especially 4 passengers vehicle and taxi in front of Ben Thanh Market)

The best type of taxi to ride in are newer vehicle that belongs to large companies. You can tell they are a corporate taxi with their logo and branding on the vehicle side door. Usually 7 seaters/ passengers vehicle are good choice as long as they are newer model.
The rate of the first kilometers is about : 10.000 VND (0.60 USD). This is the amount that all taxi meter starts off when you first enter a taxi.
Check the rate with the taxi driver for any long distant travel and agree on a price before you start driving. The best thing about a corporate operated taxi is that you can call the company?s phone number and ask about price or file a complaint on any taxi driver.(obtain the vehicle number)
Pay only the exactly amount shown on the meter clock, You Never have to pay more than what the meter indicates. If the driver asks for more than what the meter show, call the taxi company phone number.
If you have any disagreement, write down the taxi number on the vehicle front glass and taxi company name. Note the operator number and use this information to contacting their company and file a complaint.
