Traditional German sauna etiquette requires nudity and benches to be covered with towels. The Aufguss, or the pouring water on hot stones to increase the sauna's humidity, is often run by a Saunameister by a schedule which is posted on the sauna's door. It is considered bad manners to enter or leave the sauna during the Aufguss session as opening the door will cause the heat to escape. Germans view a cold shower or bath, or exposure to fresh air, after a sauna as a must.
