There are many interesting places to visit within the area; Longleat House is widely regarded as one of the best examples of high quality Elizabethan architecture in Britain, and one of the most beautiful stately homes open to the public. Longleat Safari Park provides a home to some of the worlds most amazing animals. Stonehenge is surely Britain?s greatest National icon, symbolising mystery, power and endurance. Its original purpose is unclear but what is certain is that it wasn?t constructed for any casual purpose; it would have been something very important to the ancients that was worth the effort and investment that it took to construct. Stourhead Estate is fantastic, the house is a Palladian Mansion built in the 1720?s, see the impressive interior featuring an outstanding Regency Library and picture gallery. The house and garden are at the centre of a 2650 acre estate, you can wander through woodland and enjoy a range of walks through the countryside. Two and a half miles away from the garden is King Alfred?s Tower, a 50 metre high triangular red brick monument, climb to the top and enjoy magnificent views across Wiltshire, Somerset and Dorset. The American Museum has the finest collection of American decorative arts outside the United States, showing the way of life from colonial times in the 17th Century to the eve of the Civil War in the 19th. Salisbury Museum is home of relics from the World Heritage Site of Stonehenge, the ?rotten borough? of Old Sarum, the Medieval City of Salisbury, the glory of the Cathedral and a countryside packed with history.
