Evanslea Bed and Breakfast

Take the opportunity to enjoy one of Mudgee's loveliest properties. Evanslea is a heritage building (1860c) - former stables which have now been converted into a very comfortable and stylish home. You will notice that feeling of warmth and relaxation as soon as you are welcomed at the front door. Evanslea is situated on the river, only a short walk or drive from the centre of Mudgee. A beautiful secluded retreat for those wishing to escape the city. The property has a large swimming pool for guests to enjoy as well as BBQ areas and tennis court.

The Mudgee Region is located in the Heart of the Central West, about 3.5 hrs driving time from Sydney and Newcastle, and about 1.5 hrs drive from Lithgow, Bathurst or Dubbo.

Its picturesque setting, surrounded by rolling hills, is said to have led to the town's name - "Mudgee" translates to meaning "nest in the hills", which is an apt description.

The Mudgee Region can provide you with a leisurely, relaxing weekend getaway, where all you'll do is some wine & food sampling, maybe stroll through a couple of the local art & ceramics galleries, followed by coffee at one of the many excellent cafes. And for dinner, take your pick of a range of restaurants, anything from Modern Australian, Indian, Italian, Thai & Chinese, to a quick take-away - the choice is entirely yours.

If you are after a more "action packed" experience, take a drive into the surrounding National Parks and Nature Reserves, for some bushwalking, bird watching, maybe some fishing or just take a picnic. Or hire a bike and do your very own, custom made winery tour!

Which brings us to the cellar doors - there are over 40 to explore, by bike, or if you'd prefer, we can arrange a tailor made tour for you in our Vintage Valiant. We'll help you in your quest to find Mudgee's most elusive red, or any number of other varietals, from dry whites through Chardonnay, Spanish, Italian, or fortifieds, ports and liqueurs.

And as if that weren't enought, there are also a number of surrounding towns and villages that bring history to life - Gulgong, with its gold rush days streetscape, Hill End and Sofala, or Rylstone and Kandos, which border the famous Wollemi National Park.

If you are looking to stay for a while, Mudgee makes the ideal centre to base yourself in for a number of daytrips: there is the well-known Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo - take a Zoofari or explore by bike or on foot; Bathurst is the oldest settlement west of the mountains and has a lovely heritage feel to it, as well as the excellent Somerville Collection of fossils and minerals; and Orange boasts a number of cold climate vineyards along with some hatted restaurants.

So whether it's for a weekend or a week, there is plenty to do and we can help you organise it all here at Evanslea!
