The Nature Reserve
A haven for birds and a marvellous spot for bird watching, the Nature Reserve for migratory birds is situated in the east end of the Bay Tourism Area, covering an area of about 2 km2. Its abundant food supply attracts thousands of migratory birds from Siberia, Mongolia, Japan, Korea, northeast China and other places every winter. The birds will not leave until early spring, thus the best bird watching season is from November to early March.

The area features various places of interest including the Gulf Sightseeing Road, Long Teng Pavilion, Bao Wan-Rong Art Museum on Chinese Peking Opera Costumes and a windmill farm.

The Gulf Sightseeing Road is also called “the bund on the Gulf of Hangzhou. It showcases a diversity of buildings and museums in a much more relaxed setting than the Bund on the Huangpu River. Situated along the coastline of the Hangzhou Bay, the Gulf Sightseeing Road looks out to a vast saltern and a boundless sea, a scenery that fascinates visitors.

The Long Teng Pavilion is a classical Chinese building measuring 31 m in height and 200 m2 in area. From the top level of the pavilion, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Hangzhou Bay. The name of the building, “Long Teng is an auspicious expression, in which “Long means “Dragon; “Teng, “bounce, together they refer to vitality and power.

The Bao Wan-Rong Art Museum on Chinese Peking Opera Costumes has been elected one of the top 10 non-governmental museums in China. The museum has an extensive collection of Peking opera costumes. It is the right place to visit if you want to get a closer look at one of China’s most acclaimed traditional performing art.

The windmill farm is representative of Shanghai’s green efforts. Each windmill is 65 m high and its vane extends to an radius of 26 m.

The Low Beach Recreational Area
At the Low Beach Recreational Area, you can enjoy skateboarding or pick up a few colourful seashells wondrously crafted by Mother Nature to keep as souvenirs as you walk along the beautiful long beach. The sea breeze will leave you rejuvenated.

The Low Beach Islands
The Low Beach Islands consist of 15 islands of different sizes. It is opposite the Bay Tourism Area. There is a ferry service running between the island and the bay area, which takes about 40 minutes one way. The Low Beach Islands present an exotic experience that you will like the mountains, beaches, caves and authentic fishing villages there.

Kite Flying Area
Kite flying has a long history in China. It originated at the end of the Qin Dynasty (221-205 B.C.) as a military device. The Kite Flying Area in Fengxian District is a venue for international kite flying festivals and a popular kite flying area for both locals and expatriates.
