Or sample some, if not all, of the 16 styles of Chinese food which originated in different regions of the country and are served at over a thousand restaurants in Shanghai.
While staying in our Shanghai hotels it is worth a visit to the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, one of the tallest TV towers in Asia, to experience the panoramic views of Shanghai from its 263 high observation deck. Or take a trip to the Yuyuan Garden, in downtown Shanghai, which is a fantastic example of Ming and Qing dynasty landscaping.
The Yufo, or Jade Buddha Temple, was built in 1882 and contains a jade statue of Buddha from Myanmar. The temple is easily accessible from our Shanghai accommodation and is well worth a visit as it is still in perfect condition and is an excellent example of a Zen Buddhist sanctuary. Shanghai's largest temple, the Longhua Temple, is also worth a visit as it boasts a magnificent pagoda and beautiful peach blossoms.
Other popular tourist attractions include: the People's Square, which is home to the Shanghai New Museum, City Hall and the Grand Shanghai Theatres; the French Consession, a district around Huaihui Road; and The Bund, which is a stretch of Zhong Shan Dong Yi Road on the banks of the Huangpu River. The Bund area was the home of British, French, American, Russian, and Japanese banks and trading houses, and thus boasts magnificent examples of Art Deco, Gothic, Renaissance, Romanesque, and neoclassical architecture. By night the promenade boasts stunning views of the city lights and at dawn locals gather at dawn to practice kung fu, qi gong, and tai chi.
