The Cape Heritage offers a wealth of modern comforts, but retains its age-old charm and character. The hotel offers 17 bedrooms (standard, luxury and suites), each one individually appointed to enhance its unique historical character. The modern meets the master-crafted in rooms that feature high-beamed teak ceilings, 200-year-old Cape yellowwood floors and carefully preserved bespoke details. Throughout the hotel, sash windows reach up to high beamed teak ceilings and the original plasterwork preserved to showcase the original workmanship.

The Cape Heritage Hotel is an oasis of calm from which to explore all that the Mother City has to offer. Here are a few of our favorite spaces and places –feel free to visit our website for some advice on local customs and logistics :

ART GALLERIES:
Association for the Visual arts: The AVA is an important not-for-profit gallery in central Cape Town hosting up to 50 exhibitions a year, with proposals selected by a committee. Run by the energetic Estelle Jacobs, they usually host three exhibitions at a time, and this is where many young contemporary artists make their debut.
Bell Roberts Art Gallery: This is right across the road from us. This contemporary gallery has made a great impact on the contemporary art scene in the past two years, soliciting solo exhibitions by trendy young artists. Bell Roberts is also South Africa’s foremost art publishing company.
BEACHES:
Best beach for children: Boulder’s Beach-Simonstown: The water is warmer here. Although it is a small beach the children will love it, and sometimes they can swim with the penguins. 60 minutes from hotel.
Best beach for walking and jogging: Arguably Bloubergstrand. Just imagine going for a romantic walk along the endless beach whilst gazing at views of Table Mountain.
CASINO:
The Grandwest Casino is open 24hrs a day, 7 days a week. It also hosts shows and concerts.
CLUBS, BARS & HOT SPOTS IN CAPE TOWN:
As these change very often, we recommend that you consult the “Time Out” which you will find in your room and look at our current affairs files which you can find in our information lounge. Also feel free to ask any of our staff as they will more than gladly recommend the best places.
CRAFTS AND MARKETS
Greenmarket Square: This is a vibrant venue, selling a selection of art, clothing and crafts. It’s a beautiful setting and a fun market to experience. It is only a 3 minute walk from the hotel.
Old Biscuit Mill Organic Market: The Old Biscuit Mill in Salt River is a wonderful place to taste local produce, listen to music and shop. Local organic produce is also on offer at the market.
CHILDREN: There are many activities that you can enjoy together as a family:
Boulders Beach: Just south of Simon’s Town, this is one of Cape Town’s most famous family beaches. Enjoy a stroll on the walkway, watching the penguins in the natural habitat.
Two Oceans Aquarium :A fantastic aquarium in the Waterfront. Try and catch the predator feeding at 3:00pm.
Butterfly World: This is South Africa’s biggest free flying butterfly park, with a labyrinth of colours. Some of the butterfly species come from as far as Costa Rica and China.
Drakenstein Lion Park: It may not be as interactive as a zoo, but gives children the opportunity to see these magnificent beasts close up. They have two white lions which are rare and special.
Ratanga Junction: This is a fantasy fairground for those who enjoy the excitement of fun rides. By all accounts, kids just love it. They are open from November to May and only a 15 minute drive from the hotel.
World of Birds :This giant aviary has over 130 enclosures and approximately 2000 different species may be viewed. In addition, in the monkey enclosure you will have human friendly monkeys who enjoy climbing on you if you get them at the right moment. The World of Birds is situated in Hout Bay, about 25 minute drive from the hotel.
MUSEUMS :
Cultural Tourism :South Africa has a rich history and a trip to one of these areas: Bo-Kaap or the Malay Quarter and its Museum, District Six and the District Six Museum, Langa, Gugulethu and Khayelitsha, is a must for anybody that cares about cultural tourism.
Castle of Good Hope : The Castle is the oldest building in Southern Hemisphere- ideal if your interests lie in military history. It has a great exhibition on the Anglo-Boer Wars and currently houses military offices. The William Fehr Collection can also be visited.
SHOPPING :There are various shopping malls in and around Cape Town for your convenience, the closest being the V&A Waterfront. In addition, we recommend Canal Walk at Century City( just outside Cape Town) and the elegant Cavendish Square in Claremont.
TOURS :
Big Game Fishing Safaris : A 12 m Catamaran promises game fishing at its best, including some of the most spectacular the deep sea has to offer. Skeet shooting and wreck/reef/bay angling are also available.
Hop on- Hop off bus :Tour the city in a different style on an open air bus. Choose from the City and Peninsula Tours and enjoy a day at your own pace.
Robben Island :Reception will assist to make your on-line bookings for a tour. Depending on the weather conditions, the ferry departs on the hour, from 9 am until 4 pm from the Clock Tower in the Waterfront. Each round trip is about 3 – 4 hours.
Table Mountain: You can’t leave Cape Town without going up this landmark! Please be advised that the cable car does not operate when the wind factor is high. Hiking on Table Mountain is great, especially if the weather is good.
Wine tours :Stellenbosch is best known wine region of south Africa, but there are a number of other areas that produce fantastic wines as well. We can arrange day tours to these regions with groups or private guides. Please enquire at the Reception Desk.
