The Bluestone, as we are affectionately known locally, is the perfect place to stay at the halfway mark along the track from Alice Springs to Darwin and back, or coming west from Mt. Isa. We are 505km north of Alice Springs, 1 hour's drive from the Devil's Marbles, 978km south of Darwin, 663km west of Mt Isa and 678km south of Katherine.

Activities in the Barkly Region include: (our top ten list)
1. Devils Marbles (Karlwe Karlwe)- Granite boulders precariously balanced around, on top, of eachother, home to many species of flaura and fauna. A sacred Aboriginal site of the Warumungu traditional owners who believe them to be the eggs of the Rainbow Serpent. There is a self guided walk.
2. The Pebbles (Kunjarra) - Picturesque granite outcrop smaller than The Marbles. A sacred site to the Warumungu people, a women's dancing place for the Munga Munga Dreaming.
3. 4x4 The Davenport Ranges - 1120 sq km's of land. Many large waterholes, scores of flora, fauna, and various species of fish. Highlights include the Frew River Loop and Old Police Station Waterhole.
4. Battery Hill Mining Centre - Site of the #3 Government gold stamp battery.
5. Nyinkka Nyunyu - Multi Award Winning Art & Culture Centre (located beside the Bluestone). Outstanding interpretive displays, video presentation, regional arts and crafts.
6. Lake Mary Ann (Tingkarli) - Just beyond the Honeymoon Ranges. A perfect picnic and water sport spot. Bike Track back into town. (PHOTO)
7. Tennant Creek Telegraph Station - 11km's North of Tennant Creek, built in Traditional style of the times of 1872. Keys available from the information centre.
8. Bill Allen Lookout - 360 degree panoramic view of Tennant Creek. Don't let the flats of the Stuart Highway fool you!
9. Fossicking - Experience the rush of looking for gold. Permits are available from the Information Centre.
10. Tuxworth-Fullwood Museum - originally built by the Army in 1942 as a camp hospital, it is now run by volunteers and boasts artefacts from the mining days of Tennant Creek.
