Motor Cycling
If you have done Macquarie Pass, Putty Road or Oxley Highway NSW, Tamborine Mountain QLD, Adelaide Hills SA, then you may be ready to tackle Hellyer Gorge or Savage River. These great rides are on either side of Waratah and are also stages for Targa Tasmania and Rally Tasmania.

Wildlife Discovery
During the evening you will discover an assortment of native animals including wallabies, pademelons, possums, platypus and Tasmanian Devils.

Fishing
Waratah Lake is home to good eating stream fish such as brown and rainbow trout. Licences are available from Waratah Roadhouse or the hotel.

Philosopher Falls
When James Smith was prospecting near Waratah he discovered tin in the river system which led him to the world's richest tin discovery at Mt. Bischoff. You can now trace his steps and discover the waterfall named in his honour. The track takes you through the Tarkine and is a demanding walk of around four hours return.

Walking Tour
Take a self guided walk of Waratah and discover: St.James Church that was built in 1880 and was the first church in Tasmania to be lit by hydro electricity, Philosopher Smith's hut, Waratah museum, the 1887 built Athenaeum Hall, Kenworthy Stamper Mill which is an operating display of how ore was crushed, stand atop the Waratah Falls or walk to the bottom of the falls for a spectacular view. A two hour return walk through the wilderness to the 1907 built Hydro Power House starts opposite the Bischoff Hotel.

Wilderness Discovery
Waratah is the gateway to the Tarkine Wilderness area where you can discover ancient forests with the world's tallest flowering plants, plant species not found anywhere else in the world and rare and endangered birds and animals unique to this region.

Golf
Enjoy a round of golf at Mt. Vista Golf Club. The course overlooks Waratah and Mt Bischoff. The 570m par-5 5th hole is one of the longest in the state. Visitors welcome.
