Ayr Bed and Breakfast on McIntyre

The magnificent Burdekin Bridge (affectionately known as "the Silver Link") spans the Burdekin River joining the twin sugar cane growing towns of Ayr in the North and Home Hill in the South. Cane fires are a spectacular site in the evening skies. The region is well known for the fantastic fishing and crabbing in the local creeks. Limited fishing gear is available from our B & B for the use of guests(You may wish to catch some for your evening meal). World famous "Yongola Dive" is a favourite attraction as too is the golf course where Karrie Webb first tee'ed off. A drive up Mt Inkerman to the lookout and spectacular views, explore the local wetlands and the abundant birdlife (binoculars available for use), World War II Relic, or travel to the Burdekin Falls Dam a magnificent sight in flood, where peacocks strut their plumage and on through historical Charters Towers a town built in the gold mining days. Back through Ravenswood and enjoy a browse through the old Pubs (be on the lookout for Ghosts). You may enjoy a movie in one of the last remaining drive-in cinemas, be interested in the local history displayed at the Intrepretive Centre Home Hill, the works of a local artist at Zaro's Cultural Gallery or Ashworths Gallery, Rock Shop and Jewellery. Alva Beach with its Ayr Surf Club patrols the beaches in summer time and this year attracted the Australian Kite Boarding Championships. Thousands travel from all over to our "Burdekin Growers Race Day" held in May each year, for the fashions, entertainment and of course the horses. The main streets are lined with many Beauty Salons, Boutique Shops, Coffee shops, Restaurants and country Pubs, all waiting to serve you, so do be tempted. Both towns have Public Swimming Pools, Tennis courts and Lawn Bowls clubs and located in Ayr you will also find Ten Pin Bowling. The local Burdekin Theatre in Ayr with visiting entertainment proudly exhibits creative sculptures in the forecourt. Our RSL Club delivers fine meals and cold drinks also with visiting entertainment. Interested in cuddling a Koala or feeding crocodiles, a very impressive "Billabong Zoo" can be found only 40 minutes north on the highway.
