The mesmerizing Kata Beach is within only 5 minutes of walking distance from the Avista Phuket Resort & Spa.
Kata Beach has long been charming people of all nationalities with its white sand, clear water, and spectacular line of palm trees. It is a very popular destination for families. A variety of water sports -- such as jet skiing, banana boat riding, and parachuting -- can be enjoyed at the beach. For those eager to snorkel or dive, a part of the beach called Koh Puu is the perfect site. It does not have strong currents, thus making it great for both beginner and professional divers.
Phi Phi Island
The Phi Phi Island is located between the island of Phuket and the western Andaman Sea coast. The Avista Phuket Resort & Spa is only 2 hours away from this famous island. The island’s claim to fame is its outstanding reefs and spectacular scenery of the Andaman Sea. Every day, dozens of tourists are drawn to the natural beauty and charm of this tiny island. Protected as a National Marine Park, the Phi Phi Island does not allow vehicles; a lot of tourists here enjoy walking barefoot all day as they take in the island’s wonders.
The Prom Thep Cape is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the island of Phuket. A little background on it: 'Prom' means ‘purity’, and 'Thep' means “God'. This site offers a captivating view of Phuket's famed sunset. We at Avista Phuket Resort & Spa highly recommend our guests to experience the viewpoint from Prom Them Cape in the evening, sometime between 5:40 - 6:40 pm, because this is when you can enjoy most the sea and island’s splendid view and southern sunset.
Besides Kata Beach, there is another spectacular beach that is merely a few minutes away from Avista Phuket Resort & Spa: Karon Beach. This beach is located on the western coast of Phuket and is also well-liked by tourists. This beach is usually less crowded and more serene than the nearby Patong Beach, therefore making it the preferred choice of families and couples.
Patong Beach is a beach located at Phuket's west coast. It is the chief tourist resort in Phuket and is the hub of Phuket's nightlife and low-cost shopping. From Avista Phuket Resort & Spa, you only need to ride a tuk-tuk (also known as a tricycle or auto rickshaw) for about 20 minutes to arrive at the shopping and nightlife offerings at Patong Beach.
Jungceylon Shopping Centre, also called the “Center of Life Leisure “, is about 20 minutes from Avista Phuket Resort & Spa. Jungceylon was the name of Phuket back in the 16th century when traders traveled from afar to these shores. It is considered one of the biggest shopping and lifestyle complexes in Southern Thailand, occupying an area of 200,000 sq.m. It boasts more than 300 local and international shops organized into zones for fashion, dining, entertainment, and The Port’s Amazing Water Fountain Show.

Avista Phuket Resort & Spa and Kata Beach not only have spectacular surroundings, clear warm water, and exotic marine life. More importantly, there is also a wide diversity in the diving experience that appeals to all types of divers.
It is best to go diving in Phuket's clear blue waters from November to May. On the other hand, monsoon winds and surface swells in the Andaman Sea during the rainy season (from late May to October) can make remote spots inaccessible. Whether you're a total beginner or an experienced diver, Phuket is a great place to take diving courses. Our courses range from short introductory courses (which include a sample dive) to high standards of diving instruction. Kata beach is one of the most famous beaches in Thailand to dive at. Avista Phuket Resort & Spa is only a few minutes of walk away from scuba diving sites.
If you don't fancy diving or simply don’t have the time to take a diving course, snorkeling is an enjoyable alternative to view Phuket's underwater beauty. An added bonus to snorkeling is that you have a better chance of finding fish. Snorkeling can be enjoyed by simply hiring a mask, snorkel, and fins from a nearby diving shop and then swimming out to one of the reefs at Phuket's west coast. The area of Kata Beach is one of the best snorkeling spots that you can get to without a boat. Avista Phuket Resort & Spa can contact the nearest snorkeling shops to help you get started.

The surrounding waters of the Andaman Sea and the now-famous Drop Off, Kata and West beaches are home to some of the world's most prized game fish. Avista Phuket Resort & Spa is located quite near to these areas. The fish-rich waters of the Andaman Sea offer exceptional fishing for Wahoo, Dorado, Barracuda, Giant Trevally, Cobia, Rainbow Runner, King Mackerel, Queenfish, numerous species of Tuna, several species of Shark, and one of the most sought-after game fish: the Black Marlin.
Windsurfing equipment is available for hire from local shops. Boards may be rented every hour, for half-day, for a full day, or longer. Lessons for beginners are available. The best time for windsurfing in Phuket is during the dry season (from November to May). The winds are steadiest from November to February. Windsurfing during the rainy season (from May to October) is not recommended due to the rough seas and monsoon winds. Near the Avista Phuket Resort & Spa is the Kata Beach which is an ideal windsurfing site for beginners. In fact, the southern end of this beach is probably the most popular windsurfing spot in Phuket.
We’ll be honest: Phuket is not a world class surfing destination. If you want to have the best surfing experience, you are better off going somewhere else. That being said, during the rainy season (from May to October), there are rideable waves, which are not so big but can be fun anyway. For the rest of the year, it is almost totally flat with the very occasional freak swell but don't hold your breath. There are many beaches near Avista Phuket Resort & Spa such as Kata, Patong, or Karon, in which you can surf during your holiday.

Walking tours of Phuket Town offer the best perspective from which to take in some of the city’s beautiful Sino-Portuguese architecture. Architecture in Phuket dates back to the tin mining era, which is roughly 80-120 years ago. Thalang road, off of Yaowarat Road, hosts many of the oldest Sino-Portuguese style buildings. Most elephant treks will also involve a ride on bamboo rafts or buffalo cart. There is also usually an elephant show in which trained elephants perform various tasks.

Thalang National Museum
If you want to learn more about the history of Phuket, we recommend a visit to the Thalang National Museum. This museum was established in 1985 in Thalang, just 200 meters from the Heroines Monument.
