The Bungle Bungle Range, located in the Purnululu National Park, rises up to 578m above sea level and is made up of distinctive beehive-shaped towers with orange and black bands. The orange bands were formed when manganese and iron stained the harder rock, while the darker bands were formed when dark algae grew where moisture had seeped through the rock surface. The park is also rich in wildlife and Aboriginal art, and is only open between April and September. Be sure to visit the local attractions of China Wall, a long protruding quartz vein, the Wolfe Creek meteorite crater and the old post office built of mud bricks.
