The name Buderim comes from a local Aboriginal word, Badderam, for the hairpin honeysuckle which grows in the area. Buderim was settled by Europeans around 140 years ago, with the first permanent settlement established around 1860, with timber gathering being the original industry in the area. The rich soil of the area is perfect for growing many crops, including bananas, citrus fruit, coffee, sugar cane, and ginger, and Buderim Ginger is brand name recognised throughout the world.
