Experience sub-tropical Great Barrier Island 90 km from Auckland via a short 30 minutes flight or perhaps a leisurely ferry trip from downtown Auckland. Stay with us at beautiful Medlands Beach, renowned for its unique surfing beach breaks, swimming, diving and fishing. Experience the magnificent mountain wilderness walks, hot thermal springs, view rare and endangered fauna and flora, or explore historic sites, or just kick back with a good book. Medlands Beach Backpackers and Villas, overlooking Medlands Beach(only 500 metres away) has three Dorm rooms, sleeping four in each, two rooms have double beds and can be booked for sole use. Duvets,Pillows and extra blankets are supplied. There is also a seperate double room with small deck, all share a well equipped kitchen/lounge, with all facilities including hot showers, BBQ, books and board games, boggie boards and flippers are also available for use. The outdoor dining/garden area enjoys lovely views over the bay. Our two Houses (Villas) have fantastic views of Medlands Beach, they are fully self-contained, both have two double rooms( 1 with queen) and single beds, sleeping up to six. Duvets, Pillows and extra blankets are supplied. Each house has gas stove, electric fridge, solar and gas hotwater, fireplace, TV and a selection of games and books. Lounge and dining rooms enjoy sunny views of the bay. Ample parking for two cars at each house. During the cooler months we will supply all the firewood you need to keep you warm and cozy. |

Rates are for 1-2. Maximum occupancy is 6. Extra guest charge is $25 per person per night. Children under 6 stay free using exist bedding. 3 bedroom house, bedding configuration 1xQueen & 1xSingle, 1xDouble & 1xSingle & 1xSingle. Fully self contained. Rates are for 2 people. Extra adults $25.00. The room caters for a maximum of 6 adults, and a maximum of 2 children but cannot exceed 6 guests in total. The following bedding is provided:

Two Bedroom House

Rates are for 1-2. Maximum occupancy is 2. Bedding configuration is 1xDouble. Seperate from the Backpackers is a Double room/Chalet with a small deck, nestled into the gardens. Rates are for 2 people. The room caters for a maximum of 2 adults. The following bedding is provided:

Bunk Bed in a Dorm room
Rates are for 1 person. Maximum occupancy is 4. Bedding is bunk bed. There are also 2 double beds available. Duvets, Pillows and extra blankets are provided, however a $5 once only fee is charged for linen, payable direct. Booking is for per bed Rates are for 1 person. The room caters for a maximum of 1 adult. The following bedding is provided:

We are located on the eastern side of the Island approx five kms from Claris Airport, and are approx 12 kms from the wharf at Tryphena, Shuttle buses meet all ferrys and most flights are met by a shuttle sevice. |

Limited off street parking at the Backpackers, each house can park two cars. |
| Things To Do |
Surfing, swimming, sleeping, hiking the many tracks, fishing, diving or just enjoying the beach, the peace and relaxed pace of Great Barrier Island, visit Glenfern Sanctury or the local Museum ,Community Art Gallery or dine out at one of the many Restaurants. Do the hike thru windy canyon to Mt Hobson, take in the fantastic views, rent a mountain bike( or bring your own) and tackle the Adventure park, go on a fishing charter,a round of golf, have a massage, take a kayak tour or even have a Palm and Tarot reading. |
