The Old George and Dragon Guesthouse 4 star AAA star rating and is a unique icon centrally located in the heart of the Hunter Valley just minutes away from the historic township of Morpeth and just 90 minutes drive north of Sydney.

We cater for special events, weddings, conferences and groups , all inclusive packages are available.

Furnished with exquisite art and antiques, the style is tranquil and relaxing, the service discreet and professional, with the grace and comfort expected of a luxury guesthouse. This beautifully appointed heritage guesthouse is also the perfect base for touring nearby historic houses, the famous wineries of Pokolbin or for excursions to Barrington Tops and Port Stephens.

The spacious suites, cozy lounge and garden courtyard blend to create the feel of an elegant private home.

All suites are individually decorated in a comfortably luxurious English style country house. The beds are sumptuous, with deluxe mattresses, comfortable pillows, fine linen and elegant fabrics. All guestrooms have Flat LCD Televisions and DVD Players. A selection of DVDs are available to view during your stay. Ensuite bathrooms have shower facilities, plush towels, robes and Sanctum bathroom amenities.

The famous award winning Old George and Dragon Restaurant is located next door and provides guests with the best culinary creations in the Hunter Region. Dine in grand heritage surroundings and enjoy imaginative local and international dishes complemented by a fine selection of Australian wines. The Restaurant is Wednesday to Saturday only.

The Old George and Dragon is proud to be a 100% smoke free guesthouse. To ensure the comfort of all guests, all guest rooms and guest's common area are non smoking and a sanitisation fee of $250.00 will apply if smoking occurs within a guest room or common areas of the guesthouse.

There is a self-service business centre whereby guest's can gain access to the internet , use the centre to conduct conference calls, interviews and small meetings. Wireless Broadband in all guest rooms and common areas of the guesthouses. Fees apply.

Getting There Road
From the South:-
East Maitland is approx 2 hours from Sydney City Centre , north on the F3 freeway and New England Highway (15). Once on the New England Highway go through 6 set of traffic lights. After on the sixth set of traffic lights turn right onto Melbourne Street , the guesthouse is 100 metres on the right.

Road
From the North via Coast:-
From Brisbane , travel along the Pacific Highway (1) to Hexham and the New England Highway (15). Once on the New England Highway go through 6 set of traffic lights. After the sixth set of traffic lights turn right onto Melbourne Street , the guesthouse is 100 metres on the right.

Countrylink
Four XPT Services daily to and from Sydney stopping at Maitland Railway Station. From the station the guesthouse is 10 minutes away by taxi which will cost approx $12.00.

Plane
Maitland Airport ( Rutherford)- approx 20 minutes drive to the guesthouse.

Things To Do The guest house is the perfect base for touring nearby historic houses, the famous wineries of Pokolbin or for day excursions to Barrington Tops and Port Stephens. The Valley has a calendar full of events like Jazz in the Vines and Opera in the Vineyards to name a few ,the guesthouse is centrally located for this.

Visit the many historic villages like Wollombi, Morpeth and Maitland and bargain for local art , crafts and antiques.

East Maitland - Melbourne Street in which the guesthouse is located is now dotted with antique traders , galleries, a specialist house restoration centre, leather goods store together with established fine dining restaurants , cafes and nearby culinary centre.
