At the mouth of the mighty Wanganui River, Wanganui is the base to sample the variety of leisure opportunities afforded by this great River. These range from trips on the Historic Paddle Steamer Waimarie or the M.V. Wakapai to many jetboat or canoe tours offered. Historic Wanganui also boasts many parks, lakes, beaches and golf courses. Cooks gardens, probably the most famous of these, and the Wanganui race course are within five minutes of Comfort Inn Burwood. The restoration and preservation of Wanganui's heritage streets and buildings has resulted in a picturesque and friendly environment in the Victoria Avenue central city shopping area.
