YHA Greymouth Kainga-ra is nestled amongst the bush-clad hills of Greymouth, the largest town in the South Island's wild and wonderful West Coast. This Qualmark rated 4 star and Enviro Silver hostel was the local Marist Brothers Residence in the 1930s and a lot of the original native wood features have been retained in the hostel creating a unique and welcoming hostel. Some quirky and spacious budget backpacker accommodation is available in the converted old Chapel and the Brothers' study room is now a comfortable lounge.

On the side of a steep hill and facing west overlooking the Tasman Sea, the YHA Greymouth hostel boasts fantastic views with great opportunities for a perfect sunset shot. On clear days, you can sometimes catch a glimpse of Mount Cook or the Hector Dolphins from the river mouth! Short bush walks are available close to the hostel for the nature lover.

Getting There	Magic Bus, Kiwi Exp, Stray and all Shuttles: Drop off at hostel Intercity: Drop off at Railway station Car: SH6/Tainui, turn into Chapel Street at McDonald's. Tranzalpine Train: 600m to hostel.
Parking	Limited off street parking available as well as plenty of free on street spaces.
Things To Do	Take a tour of The Monteiths brewery. Check out our mining history. Stroll the glorious promenade and take in unabated views of rolling west coast surf. Beachcombing in this area is an art form in itself.
