"With just 14 rooms, the staff at this elegant boutique hotel have plenty of opportunity to look after the lucky guests. They don't overdo things though, and the service is always warmly personal and professionally unobtrusive.

Visitors rave about Central Ridge's breakfasts but there's plenty more to be effusive about, like pre-dinner canapes with Central Otago wines, underfloor heating and spacious, modern bathrooms. Luxury touches include mohair throws and crisp Egyptian cotton bed linen. Romantic two-person spa baths just made for candlelit assignations feature in a few more expensive suites. The guest-lounge-meets-library is perfect for recounting the day's stories of adventure sports, and when the sun shines (quite a regular occurrence in Central Otago), breakfast is served al fresco.
