L'Hôtel on the Left Bank in Paris is re-launched in June 2006 following an extensive refurbishment. The team behind Cowley Manor, the exquisite country house hotel located in the heart of the Cotswolds, have announced the acquisition of the famously historical L’Hotel. Redecorated in the 1990's by Jacques Garcia, L’Hotel was individually designed with sultry rooms, contemporary style and chic décor throughout. The cellars were converted to house an intimate swimming pool for private romantic swims as well as a private steam room. Jacques Garcia has once again been appointed to create a more sensual, relaxed feel throughout. An outstanding new young chef, Philippe Belissent, who was previously sous-chef at the Michelin 3-starred Ledoyen in Paris, has been appointed at L’Hotel, allowing him the chance to showcase his tremendous talents. In the same fashion as Cowley Manor, L'Hôtel will be managed in a relaxed, friendly, stress-free environment; a perfect retreat after a long day of shopping, gallery viewing, museum hopping or exhausting business ventures. L'Hotel, in St. Germain des Près, epitomises the beating heart of the city with the surrounding streets filled with art galleries, cafes, one-off boutiques and designer shops. It is the Paris of Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir, of Ernest Hemingway and of Oscar Wilde. The original hotel was built as a Pavilion d'Amour in the early 19th century and still simmers with ardour. This is the famous location which became the place to be seen in the 1960s, the hippest, hottest place in town where many Hollywood icons stayed when they came to town (Katherine Hepburn, Princess Grace, John Paul Getty, Salvador Dali, George Harrison, Ava Gardner, Frank Sinatra and Peter Sellers to name a few). It was here that Oscar Wilde spent his last months and indeed days, and was famously noted for stating "I am dying above my means." L'Hotel has a glorious Oscar Wilde room in his memory. L'Hôtel is ideally located at 13 Rue des Beaux Arts, St Germain des Près, and is an easy walking distance to the Louvre, the Musée d'Orsay, Notre Dame, and the world-famous Cafés Les Deux Magots and Café Flore. There are also direct metro lines to Gare du Nord and Eurostar. |

| Things To Do |
Well informed, eloquent and oh-so-romantic, the ‘City of Light’ is a philosopher, a poet, a crooner. As it always has been, Paris is a million different things to a million different people. Paris has all but exhausted the superlatives that can reasonably be applied to any city. Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower – at sunrise, at sunset, at night – have been described countless times, as have the Seine and the subtle (and not-so-subtle) differences between the Left and Right Banks. But what writers have been unable to capture is the grandness and even the magic. Paris probably has more familiar landmarks than any other city in the world. As a result, first-time visitors often arrive in the French capital with all sorts of expectations: of grand vistas, of intellectuals discussing weighty matters in cafés, of romance along the Seine, of naughty nightclub revues, of rude people who won’t speak English. If you look hard enough, you can probably find all of those. But another approach is to set aside the preconceptions of Paris and to explore the city’s avenues and backstreets as if the tip of the Eiffel Tower or the spire of Notre Dame wasn’t about to pop into view at any moment. |
