Choose from Magic Cottage, a cosy studio perched on the river bank – the ultimate romantic retreat complete with luxurious al fresco claw foot bath overlooking the river; or Summer and River Cottages – set in the beautiful gardens a minutes walk from the riverbank, each cottage with its own private romantic al fresco claw foot bath on the cottage deck or hidden in the gardens at the Summer House. Finally The Lodge, with its warm timber interior, log fire, spa-bath, cathedral ceilings and river views. Enjoy luxurious beds, feather duvets, fine linen, fresh flowers, books and magazines, peace, seclusion and tranquility; a beautiful river frontage and gardens, organic farmland native bush and rich birdlife; swimming, kayaking and fishing and access to the beautiful and deserted sandy beaches a short paddle downstream at Takou Bay. |

| Getting There |
Driving Directions to Takou River from Auckland: Take SH1 north from Auckland towards Whangarei. Turn left through Kawakawka (still on SH1) and straight through Moerewa until you reach the right hand turn onto SH10, signed posted Kerikeri. Turn right and continue on SH10 for a further 15 minutes or so and you will reach a roundabout on the highway. Follow SH10 for another 5 minutes and you will reach Waipapa. Continue for 8 km on SH10 north beyond Waipapa, and look out for a lamp post with a sign underneath pointing to a right hand turn to Takou Bay Road. Take this right hand turn. After about 1 km take the left hand fork, still Takou Bay Road. Follow this metalled road with right to the very end (approx 5.5 km) past a blue and white cottage on the right and down into the property through the green metal gates. From here follow the main drive to the end and you will see signs to the Cottages – follow the signs and park in front of your cottage. By Air from Auckland: Air New Zealand operates 5 return flights daily from Auckland to Kerikeri (Bay of Islands) Airport. We are an easy 20 minute drive from the airport. Turn left out of the airport and drive for 2 km till you reach the roundabout on SH10. Turn left and after about 3 minutes you will reach Waipapa on SH10. Follow directions from Waipapa as above. |

Guests have access to all the amenities at Takou River including: Free kayaks, canoes and fishing rods; private Boathouse and Jetty; beautiful private river frontage, secluded swimming spots, established sub-tropical gardens and 150 acre organic farm, and the beautiful deserted sandy beaches. Magic Cottage and Takou River Lodge are centrally located in New Zealand’s “Winterless North”. Ideally placed to explore the Bay of Islands and the Far North’s attractions. Kerikeri is a convenient 25 minute drive, while the marine attractions at Paihia, the historic town of Russell and Treaty House at Waitangi are all easily accessible 40 minutes away. Whangaroa Harbour and Matauri Bay are just 25 minutes north. Whangaroa Harbour and Matauri Bay with its stunning views to the Cavalli Islands are both just 25 minutes north. Paihia is the tourist centre of the Bay of Islands and the starting point for a great range of sailing and sea adventures. For those looking for adventure try a tandem sky dive or a scenic flight over the Bay of Islands. Puketi and Omahuta Forest are an easy 25 minute drive from Takou River. Venturing further a field, a range of day trips offer guests the opportunity to explore further north to New Zealand’s spectacular 90-mile beach with its miles of pristine sand and dune systems; to Cape Reinga, New Zealand’s most northerly point; across to the beautiful West Coast and Hokianga Harbour and Waipoua Forest and the giant Kauri Tane Mahuta. |
