AS FROM MONDAY 5 OCTOBER 2009 UNTIL FRIDAY 7 NOVEMBER 2009 THE BRIDGE WILL ALSO BE CLOSED DUE TO REPAIRS. Woolmers Estate is a property set on 200 acres, 5km from Longford in Northern Tasmania. Woolmers was continuously occupied by the Archer family from 1816 to 1994 and is acknowledged as one of the most outstanding examples of 19th century rural settlements in Australia. There are seven cottages set in the grounds, sleeping 20 people. They were built in the 1840s to house the trades people on the Estate and have been converted into 4 star, self-catering colonial cottages. The site is open to visitors daily and consists of conducted tours of the main house, self-guided tours of the out buildings, grounds and National Rose Garden. Morning and afternoon teas and light lunches are available from the Servants Kitchen restaurant. Dinner hampers are available for cottage guests wishing to eat in. Cottage guests receive a complimentary guided tour through the main house. Australian Tourism Awards winner in 1998 and Tasmanian Tourism Award in 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001 and 2002. |
