Rated "Platinum Maple Leaf" (the highest available classification) by the Canada and Kiwi Bed and Breakfast Hosts (CBBH). Central, clean, quiet; easy parking. FREE Internet, SPACIOUS rooms, many with TWO Queen beds, air conditioning and en-suite. We also have a Budget room available on the ground floor without air-conditioning or double glazing and sharing a bathroom upstairs. Our heritage home has crystal chandeliers and 11 feet high ceilings downstairs with good views to the Sugar Loaf and across Tasman Bay to the Arthur Ranges from upstairs. Twin balconies afford fine views to the Centre of New Zealand and you can lie in the bath and watch the sheep grazing on the ridgeway - very peaceful! We are completely SMOKE FREE! (Smoking is not allowed anywhere on Amber House's domain - neither inside nor outside the house.) Most of our room rates include a yummy Kiwi breakfast which some guests enjoy taking on the verandah of our Irish rose garden - this is one of the sunniest spots in New Zealand. The (en suite and air-conditioned) Blue and Rose Room rates include a delicious breakfast of your choice individually cooked to order together with fruit from our fruit bowl any time - we grow our own strawberries and walnuts organically. Help yourself to speciality teas and other hot and cold beverages and from our well-stocked cookie jar in the dining room! Most long distance coaches, city buses (including the double decker city tour) and the shuttle into the Abel Tasman National Park stop right outside our rose garden. The Miyazu Japanese Gardens, the Farmers Market in Founders Heritage Park, the Huangshi Chinese Garden in Queens Gardens, the Theatre Royal and a great beach are nearby and the Sprig and Fern Pub just a two minute stroll. BAGGAGE STORE: We will STORE your BAGGAGE FREE (but at your risk, not ours) until you return to spend at least one more night with us (if you are visiting the Abel Tasman National Park or touring the South Island, perhaps). CHECK-IN: Although we live at Amber House, there are obviously many times when we are absent (to take the children Irish dancing or to go shopping for example). However, we would much prefer to be at home to welcome you when you arrive. Please, therefore, email or text us any change in your anticipated arrival time. Our contact details can be located on your booking confirmation form. CHECK-IN times are always ONLY by prior arrangement - usually between 14:00 to 21:30hrs on the day of arrival and CHECK-OUT time should typically be before 10:30hrs on the day of departure - other times by prior agreement. B&B's in New Zealand do not have desk clerks on duty round-the-clock to await your arrival, so it is vital that the family knows what time to expect you. We have daily family affairs to attend to, but will have re-arranged our schedule to accommodate your specified check-in time — so your arrival time is extremely important! If this time changes either way by 30 minutes, please notify us as soon as you are aware of the change. Otherwise, we may not be here to greet you. If your arrival time is very unpredictable we can arrange to have your keys left in a digital key safe outside the front door, but you will need to contact us for prior arrangements. It's REALLY IMPORTANT that you now send us the phone number of the mobile phone you will be carrying on the day you arrive (and keep it switched on) so we can update each other with any last minute developments. (You usually won't pay any international roaming charges to RECEIVE text/SMS messages in New Zealand even if your cell phone is registered overseas...) From our GUEST BOOK: "The stay was fantastic and I cannot fault the hospitality in any way. Great rooms, good breakfast and a very friendly host. Thank you M." Dr B P (Hamilton) "We arrived at Amber House with tons of dirty clothes due to a hard time on a volcano mountain. In less time that it takes to say it, our clothes were refreshed and we could at last wear clean clothes. We had delicious and original breakfasts, and good advices to visit the area. Our pleasant stay in Nelson was mainly related to our hosts' attention. Thank you, friends, for the nice memory we keep from there..." Erwann, Laure & our 4 children. (from France via Beijing) I had a great time in Nelson and if I come back to New Zealand I will stay again in the Amber House. It is a wonderful place to stay! Thank you very much for everything. Stephan, (Switzerland) |

State Highway 6 to the Trafalgar Street roundabout (first roundabout if coming from Pelorus Bridge; third roundabout if coming from Murchison). On foot or driving from DoC and Nelson Visitor's Centre: Exit Centre. Turn right and right again into Trafalgar Street. Head north for 400m (towards SH6) and take the 4th turn right into Wainui Street which becomes Weka Street after 260m. The City Tour Double Deckers and Intercity coaches stop right outside our front rose garden, as does the shuttle bus to and from the Abel Tasman National Park. | Things To Do |
The city of Nelson has grown up around us so we are just a short stroll from the Theatre Royal, State Multiplex Cinema, Pheasant Plucker in the Bush Tavern and Sprig & Fern pubs, Jewellers and Craft Shops. Opposite us is Founders Heritage Park with its Friday afternoon Farmers Market. Saturday morning sees many of our guests off to visit the `World-famous-in-New Zealand' craft and artisan market in nearby Montgomery Square. Wine tours begin from our dining room. Three Golf courses and a great beach are nearby. Terrific fishing and we're surrounded by THREE national parks! |
